Supporters say the amendment would preserve sex-based athletic opportunities for women and girls, while critics argue it could negatively affect transgender students.
Note: Nebraska already has a state law requiring students to participate on teams designated for their sex. This amendment would place sex-based athletic requirements in the state constitution, making them more difficult to change through future legislation.
