# Idaho - What to watch in 2026

**As of September**, Idaho remains one of the nation's most restrictive states on abortion, but voters will have an opportunity to reconsider that policy in November. In July, a [citizen-led reproductive rights initiative](https://unitedforyes.com/?ref=womensrightsdata.org) officially qualified for the ballot after supporters submitted nearly 110,000 signatures.

[Proposition 1](https://ballotpedia.org/Idaho%5FProposition%5F1,%5FReproductive%5FFreedom%5Fand%5FPrivacy%5FAct%5FInitiative%5F%282026%29?ref=womensrightsdata.org), the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act, would establish new statutory protections for reproductive freedom and substantially change Idaho's current reproductive-rights landscape if approved.

### What's at Stake

**Reproductive rights.**  
Proposition 1 would protect abortion before fetal viability and in medical emergencies after viability, as well as decisions involving contraception, fertility treatment, miscarriage care, childbirth care, and prenatal and postpartum care. If the measure fails, Idaho's existing abortion restrictions would remain in place.

### Proposition 1 - Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act

**Short ballot title:** *Measure creating right to abortion before fetus viability, and post-viability to protect health; right to privacy; healthcare provider liability protections.* 

- **A YES vote** would enact the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act.
- **A NO vote** would leave Idaho's existing law unchanged.
